In cooperation with the Japanese General Council of the Assemblies of God we are in the early planning phase for opening a Japanese language church.
Most Japanese are Buddhist, and as such have been historically difficult to reach. The General Council of Japan has sent their first appointed missionaries to the United States with the goal of planting churches in cities with large Japanese populations. Daisuke and Yoriko Yabuki have already had a successful church plant in Missouri, where they are now pastoring.
We are discovering that there are pockets of Japanese believers scattered around the country that meet in small group settings, but have no pastor. Daisuke and Yoriko are trying to network these groups and help them grow into church plants.
On Saturday, February 15th on the campus of Northwest University; we met with some of those interested in establishing a church. Dave Cole, Asst. Supt. of the Northwest Ministry Network challenged them in the opening session, and Dr. Joseph Castleberry, President of Northwest University ministered and encouraged them with a powerful message. Yoriko encouraged them to seek the baptism in the Holy Spirit and the day concluded with an old fashioned prayer meeting. One of the new believers was filled with the Holy Spirit!
Please join us in praying that God will help us in the months ahead to enable this group to plant a church to disciple and mature these Japanese believers so that they will be equipped to reach out and evangelize their compatriots!
Everyone has mentors. One of Dave's early ones was John M. Tappero, whom God used to instruct and encourage during his teen and pre-teen years.
Later during our last two years at Northwest Bible College (Northwest University) he invited Dave to lead Bible clubs at three different grade schools. In those days, the state allowed what was called "released time" for such activities. These Bible clubs met in the schools after class hours.
We will always be grateful to Pastor Tappero for the opportunities he gave us and for helping to shape our ministry! His is now going on 99 years of age, and still blessing so many lives!
